"All Aboard!!!! The Rhythm and Reading Express": Music therapist Jamie Showers hosts this pro-literacy program of sing-along songs and play-along games for kids ages 5 to 9. It's scheduled for 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, September 7; and 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, September 9, at Glendale Public Library, 5959 West Brown. "Animal Crackers": Shemer Art Center, 5005 East Camelback, presents this hands-on exhibit, featuring "tactile art experiences for blind children, as well as altered-vision experiments for sighted kids." It opens Wednesday, September 11, and continues through Friday, October 18. Call 262-4727.

"Strengthening Families Through the Arts": This exhibit features masks, portraiture, sculpture and other works by kids affiliated with the Save the Family Foundation of Arizona program, which provides transitional housing for homeless families. Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona sponsors the installation, which opens with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 6, and continues through Saturday, September 28, at Mesa Arts Center, 155 North Center.
