"Bird tour" may not have the same meaning it did in '60s-era London, but it's still a pleasant prospect. Desert Botanical Garden offers a feathered-friend tour from 7 to 8 a.m. Monday, August 3, at the garden, 1201 North Galvin Parkway, in Papago Park. Spawned in Puerto Rico in 1977, the Logan's Run of bubblegum bands, Menudo--or, in English, "tripe"--is still grinding away, using up teen heartthrobs and throwing them on the scrap heap by the time they're 16. But six original members of Menudo--Johnny Lozada, Ricky Melendez, Ray Reyes, Miguel Cancel, Charlie Masso and Rene Farriatt--have re-formed as El Reencuentro ("The Reunion"). The press materials assure us that "the international community knows them individually by name, and grew up with their music." Arizona comics T.A. Burrows, Bill McRea, Jerry Johnson and Les Rogers are the co-headliners for "Jokers Wild!", an evening benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Southern Arizona.
