Kids try karaoke at SMoCA

Sun 7/13
Grade school trends may come and go, but music will always be one of the true joys of childhood. Seventies tykes sang along to Sesame Street disco records, children of the '80s got caught up in the lip-synching craze, and '90s youngsters got a piece of the airwaves with Radio Disney. Today, kids are getting into the same musical pastime that has their moms and dads hooked: karaoke. Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art hands the microphone to kids age 5 and older when it presents "SMoCA Family Day: Crazy Karaoke" from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 13. The event starts with a tour of the exhibition "Lee Bul: Live Forever," showcasing the Korean artist's karaoke pods that resemble space-age cars. Then, a workshop lets kids use their imaginations to design their own whimsical cars. Ending the afternoon on a high note, the gang heads to the Stage 2 Theater for a group karaoke performance.
