F1 Racing Factory puts East Valley on track

Fri 9/26
The lure of wheel-to-wheel racing is reserved for a special kind of person, one for whom life truly begins when the rubber meets the road. Arizona has always been a fertile breeding ground for racing aficionados, a group about to be indoctrinated into the world of European-style kart racing, courtesy of the new home office for Valley speed freaks. Air it out at F1 Race Factory's grand opening this Friday, September 26. European-style karts reach speeds up to 45 mph on two indoor quarter-mile tracks, while a rock-climbing wall, deluxe billiards room, and racing-themed arcade back up F1's claim of being the area's premier racing and entertainment complex.

Do The Light Thing

Vigil raises awareness at Tempe Town Lake

Fri 9/26
Soldiers know that the antidote for grief and fear is action. Help battle cancer Friday, September 26, at Tempe Town Lake's Light the Night Walk, an event created to "commemorate and celebrate those touched by cancer." Form a team of friends, family members or co-workers and raise money to help find a cure for blood cancers, leukemia, Hodgkins and non-Hodgkins lymphomas and myeloma. Survivors carry illuminated white balloons, and supporters carry red ones. Enjoy free music and food, and join a few thousand other points of light to drive away the dark. The suggested donation is $100. For details call Kathie at 602-788-8622. - Kim Toms

The Puck Stops Here

The Phoenix Coyotes take to the ice

Tue 9/30
When living legend Wayne Gretzky emerged as co-owner of the Phoenix Coyotes in 2000, it was hailed as a brave new day for ice hockey in the desert. Since then, superstars such as Jeremy Roenick and Keith Tkachuk have moved on, and last year's youth movement resulted in the team missing the playoffs entirely.

This season, with the Glendale Arena set to open in late December, the Great One has responded with killer new uniforms and an updated roster in what is shaping up to be a season of change in Coyote land.

Check out the new-look Desert Dogs as they gear up with a preseason tilt against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday, September 30, at America West Arena, 201 East Jefferson. Game time is 7 p.m. Tickets start at $9; call 480-563-PUCK or visit www.phoenixcoyotes.com to purchase. - Craig Wallach
