Something Gold, Something New

First Friday visitors will schlep about longer than usual this week, thanks to the debut of the Gold Spot Transitional Bar & Gallery, where the spirit of "carpe diem" holds court. Fancy an oil-on-canvas by one of the seven or eight featured artists? Buy it while you're there. Have a hankering to hear Doc Jones play? Get there early, for the multimedia Gold Spot is as rare as its name implies: It's open only on First Fridays. Once the clock strikes 10 p.m., this Cinderella-like gallery transitions back to the vacant Gold Spot Market building. Like all good fairy tales, though, this one has a happy ending. Bar sales benefit the Roosevelt Action Association, which works to promote appreciation of Phoenix's cultural and architectural history.
