Rattlers fans get one last home game

Sun 5/9
Despite their five-game win streak, as well as a likely berth in the Arena Football League playoffs, the Arizona Rattlers will play what may be their final home game of the season at America West Arena on Sunday, May 9, against their Western Division rivals, the San Jose SaberCats. It's not only a last chance to wish the Rattlers good luck as they go for a third Arena Bowl championship, but also to bid farewell to some of the team's most venomous fans, including Michele "One L" Staples, who's been slithering along with the Rattlers (now 8-5) at both home and away games this season.

Shake, rattle and roll: The Rattlers take on the San Jose SaberCats in their last regular season home game.

"We're always there for the Rattlers, because this team and this organization is always there for their fans," says Michele Staples, a former Kansas City Chiefs cheerleader who sits in the front row of Section 124 at AWA along with her husband, John, a retired sports memorabilia dealer.

Don't try to sell boxer Yory Boy Campas on win-win scenarios -- the only conflict resolution he's interested in says "I'm OK; you're KO'd." Ditto the other contenders in the Triple Title Thriller this Saturday, May 8, at the Dodge Theatre. Not only will Campas duke it out with Selby Pudwill for the International Boxing Association's middleweight title (formerly held by Oscar de la Hoya), but scrapper Michael Lozada hopes to hook the World Athletic Association's lightweight crown. And Robert Enrique thinks it's 'bout time to beat Martin Bermudez to the punch in the Arizona State Welterweight Championship fray. The bell rings at 7:30 p.m. at the Dodge, 400 West Washington. Tickets range from $20 to $100. See www.dodgetheatre.com. -- Kim Toms

Brigette Bogedain wants to turn you on -- just not in her direction. "I've had people tell me that I was turning them on -- both male and female," says Bogedain, a 33-year-old dance instructor who's been privately teaching the latest fitness craze, "strippercise," for nearly 10 years. "Sure, it's flattering, but I prefer that we just pretend that my students are in their thongs." So dress appropriately and head to Scottsdale's Dance Time Dance Studio, 10339 North Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale, on Saturday, May 8, when she holds her first open strippercise class, starting at 2 p.m. The workout combines slow, sensual music and fast, funky tempos to bump and grind to. Each class is $10. Call 480-951-4225. -- Joe Watson
