Sat 7/10
Alcohol and night golfing -- it's a winning combination. Leave it to the geniuses at the Papago Brewing Company to dream up the best pairing since hops joined forces with barley. Wannabe golf pros can get lit to the gills before heading out to slice and drive at the third-annual Papago Brewing Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 10, at the Continental Golf Course, 7920 East Osborn in Scottsdale. The first nine holes get tackled at 5 p.m., followed by a barbeque and booze break, with the remaining nine decided under the cover of darkness (provided that we can actually see the green). A $50 entrance fee covers food, green fees, equipment rental and two drink tickets. Proceeds benefit a Papago regular who's battling cancer. Call 480-425-7439 to register; see www.papago brewing.com for details. --Benjamin Leatherman Game Plan All-Star Game party gives D-backs a breather Tue 7/13
Diamondbacks fans can drink away their blues on Tuesday, July 13, when Fox Sports Grill, 16203 North Scottsdale Road, hosts an All-Star Game party beginning at 4 p.m. While perfect gamer Randy Johnson might be the only D-Back representing the home team in the midsummer classic at Houston's Minute Maid Park, the entire roster should use the break wisely. The game starts at 5 p.m.; fans can get in on food and drink specials and prizes, including autographed D-Backs paraphernalia and tickets. For dinner reservations or more information, call 480-368-0369. --Joe Watson Girls' Ride Out Synergy Coaches seeks to create community Sun 7/11
Face it, girls, that feeling you had back in the third grade was dead on -- boys are icky. With all the testosterone and chest pounding, you're better off without 'em. Such is the spirit of the All Girls Road Ride on Sunday, July 11; three different women-only excursions depart at 6 a.m. from the northeast corner of Pinnacle Peak and Scottsdale Roads, lasting two hours each. "We're trying to get more active women out there to connect with each other and find riding partners," says Steven Campo, founder of Synergy Coaching. The ride is limited to road bikes only, and certified coaches will be on hand. With a higher threshold for pain and better water retention, ladies have a leg up -- plus, there's no junk underneath that gets damaged on those nasty bumps. E-mail info@synergycycling.com to RSVP. --Benjamin Leatherman
