Accidental supergroups make great rock 'n' roll. Take, for example, the Burden Brothers, whose founding members -- vocalist/guitarist Vaden Todd Lewis (ex-Toadies) and drummer Taz Bentley (ex-Reverend Horton Heat) -- got together to jam on some songs Bentley had written. The two liked the songs so much that they posted them on the Web. Overwhelmed by fan response, they decided to play live, mining musicians from their hometown of Dallas for the shows. When the labels came calling, the duo dubbed themselves the Burden Brothers and solidified their lineup with guitarists Corey Rozzoni and Casey Hess, and bassist Casey Orr (formerly of GWAR). John Kirtland (ex-drummer for Deep Blue Something) jumped on board as executive producer for the band's debut album, Buried in Your Black Heart, resulting in a schizophonic collection of retro college radio rock and raw punk that defies definition. "Right now, the idea is not to have a style," says Lewis. "We'll fall into a sound eventually, but we want it to be a natural progression."
