Battle of the DJs

The lines are just beginning to be drawn at the Battle of the DJs spin-off competition at Flip Flops in Tempe (216 and 222 East University). This Saturday night, October 2, marks another installment of the first-round eliminations, and next Saturday will be the last chance for you to put your grubby fingers on the wax in a quest to win the finals and go home with two brand-new Technics 1200s.

DJ Phat E is the brains behind the no-cover, no-entry-fee party-rocking competition. Besides keeping drinks cheap as hell, with $2 Buds and Bud Lights, he's keeping the three judges incognito so the skeevey-ass competitors can't influence the game. Each turntablist gets a half-hour to rock the crowd, and crowd response paired with the judges' opinions determines who moves on to the quarterfinals and the big finale on November 20.
