It's New Year's Eve and you've got at least two options: Join the hordes (via ample television coverage) in NYC's Times Square to watch the ball drop; or ditch the sofa and ring in the new year by dropping a beat. For pleasure-seeking funkophiles in favor of option "B," the second annual "Funk Me, I'm Famous Baby!" New Year's Eve party at Mickey's Hangover (7316 East Stetson in Scottsdale) on Friday, December 31, is just what the doctor ordered. And by doctor, we mean Dr. Drew, the Surgeon General of Funk, who'll spin funk and soul mixed with old-school beats. A night of funky tunes and half off everything until 10 p.m. is the perfect prescription to have you feelin' good -- James Brown style -- well into the new year. A $10 admission gets you in starting at 5 p.m.; tickets can be purchased at the door or online at www.mickeyshangover.com. Call 480-429-8919. -- Melinda Peer

A co-production of Mainstay Gallery, Se Vende Studio and Fortoul Presents, this black-and-white-themed masquerade ball boasts four DJs, two bands, and new works for sale by peeps like Ken Situ and Vic Hong. Pre-Game Huddle

Fiesta, then Bowl

SAT 1/1

When it comes to doling out credit for a football team's success, no contributor flies under the radar as much as The Tailgater. After all, everyone plays a role in victory, even if that role entails hours spent in a stadium parking lot pounding beers and cooking bratwurst in sub-zero temperatures. Come this weekend in Tempe, The Tailgater finally gets his due. Extend New Year's Eve another day when the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl presents "College Football's Biggest Party," Saturday, January 1, at the ASU Festival Grounds just north of Sun Devil Stadium. More than 30,000 fans are expected to be on hand for this pre-game event featuring pep rallies, food and beverage booths, appearances by the Utah and Pittsburgh marching bands, and more. Tickets are $20. For details call the Fiesta Bowl Ticket Office at 480-350-0911 or visit www.tostitosfiestabowl.com/events. -- Craig Wallach
