While the Blunt Club has been lighting up the Priceless Inn, 5014 South Price in Tempe, for almost three years, promoter Adam Dumper (a.k.a. Dumperfoo) is promising something decidedly dope on Thursday, January 6, when the third round of the "All B-Boys Armory Hip-Hop Invasion" goes down. Two factions of SoCal DJs -- LPSD (Lyrical Prophets Strictly Dope) and The Empire DJ's -- will join in-house turntablists DJ Element, Tricky T, and Hyder for the show. Local b-boy crews Phunky Phoenicians, Furious Styles, and UFO will also be in the house, along with two local "infamous" graffiti artists, who'll perform live artwork displays (so far, Dumper's keeping their identities on the down-low). DJ Catalyst starts up the 21-and-over event with a poetry reading at 8 p.m., followed by open mic until 9:30 p.m., and music until 2 a.m. Admission is $5. Take in Ken Wain's performance at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, at the Kerr Cultural Center, 6110 North Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale, for your first lesson from the "Groovemaster," who'll provide plenty of funky jazz and blues, as well as standards from composers such as Cole Porter and George Gershwin. If you're like Bill and Ted, and you think that Julius Caesar is just "a salad dressing dude," then you'll probably benefit from the Phoenix Symphony's "Most Excellent Adventure" on Saturday, January 8, at the Dodge Theatre, 400 West Washington. The program follows two teenagers who travel back in time and encounter legendary composers and musicians, including Beethoven and Gershwin. While you won't learn the secrets of Beethoven's big hair, you'll discover plenty of factoids about the music of these master composers. The time machine is seemingly bouncing around the space-time continuum, since the program also includes selections like "The Flintstones Meet the Jetsons."
