Hike! For the love of dogs

SAT 3/5
If your pooch's flabby paunch is starting to rival your beer gut, it's time to get that mutt some exercise. Take a hike with your canine companion on Saturday, March 5, when local no-kill animal organizations Paw Placement and For the Luv of Dogz, along with the Canine Hiking Club of Arizona, hold their annual 1-to-3-mile fund-raising hike in the Arizona Horse Lovers Park, 19224 North Tatum Boulevard. In addition to the hike, Trail Trek 2005 includes plenty of adorably pathetic pups up for adoption, a silent auction, a raffle, and more than 25 pet-related vendors. Same-day registration starts at 7:30 a.m., followed by the hike at 9 a.m. Fees are $20 per person, $40 per family. Money goes toward finding homes for homeless dogs and cats. Call 623-516-9422 or see www.pawplacement.com. -- Ashlea Deahl
