Allin a day's rock

Many a posturing punker has attempted over the years to emulate the puerile pranks of GG Allin, arguably one of the more infamous and reviled figures in rock history.

Whether slicing open their melons, wearing women's underwear, or flinging fecal matter, amped-up alt-rockers everywhere have copied the late shock-rocker's aggressive antics, either to milk the macho mentality or get over with a crowd.

Now those wanna-bes can drop all pretense and simply ape Allin's act for the delight of the dirty denizens of Jugheads at GG Fest on Tuesday, June 28 (the anniversary of his fatal heroin overdose in 1993).

Following a set by garage rockers Big Vinny and the Cattle Thieves, and a barbecue spread provided by Jugheads owner Sid Copeland (complete with 50-cent PBRs), an ensemble consisting of members of punk outfits like The Wongs will perform songs -- karaoke-style -- from Allin's vast discography with various backing bands like the Scumfucs, the Texas Nazis, the Cedar Street Sluts, and the Murder Junkies.

In the spirit of Allin's music, once described as "typically sloppy, amateurish, and poorly recorded (even by punk rock standards)," guitarist Ryan Wong says he's not sure who'll be playing out tunes like "Drink, Fight and Fuck" and "Tough Fuckin' Shit" during the show, or even if they'll be prepared.

"The other guys in the band are lazy bastards who aren't taking the time to know their shit," says Wong. "I would've liked to have more of an actual band to play, but people are too busy."

And if singers wanna start defecating onstage, that's okay with Wong, who, like Allin did, goes to extremes only to please himself.

"Getting completely wasted, going ape-shit during a gig is not necessary to shock people, because to me, it's more doing shit for myself," says Wong. "I mean, I ain't bleeding for some fucking asshole in the front row."
