Hot Wheels

All revved up in Chandler

MON 7/4
If you have a hot jalopy that you're dying to show off to a group of ogling, salivating spectators, gas it up and drive to Chandler, where the Arizona Veteran Rodders Club hosts a classic car show at Tumbleweed Park on Monday, July 4, as part of the Lions Club Independence Day celebration. "Even if you have a brand new Corvette and you want to show it, come on down, we'll still let you participate," says Steve Kovacevich, the show's organizer, because that's how they roll. Participation in the car show costs $12 and allows one person or couple to display their sexy wheels. Kovacevich will proudly display his own 1976 Cadillac Seville, which is only taken out for car show events. For serious Fourth of July junkies, never fear, you can get your fireworks fix at 9:30 p.m. The event begins at 4 p.m. Tumbleweed Park is located on the southwest corner of McQueen and Germann roads in Chandler. Admission is free. Call 480-782-2735. -- Amy Young

There's always room for dodge ball

ONGOING
Dodge ball -- the sport -- has lost some of its alt-appeal thanks to Dodgeball -- the movie. But we've got esteem issues, so we choose breaking balls over breaking ground. Prepare for our wrath in the daily dodge ball tourneys, from 6 to 10 p.m., at Kiwanis Park, 6111 South All-America Way in Tempe. Registration is $50 per team. Call 480-350-5050. -- Joe Watson
