Hello Moto

Freaky freestyle flies through town

7/22-7/23
The auto-racing set has dominated motor sports in recent years, but the left-turn crowd has nothing on the daredevils on display at the IFMA Freestyle Motocross tour. As if the death-defying tricks the sport is known for weren't enough, this year's tour has incorporated elements from the Extreme Sport Bike Association. Drop in on a weekend's worth of action that promises to make your typical auto race look like the slow lane on a Sun City street when IFMA Freestyle Motocross comes to town Friday, July 22, and Saturday, July 23, at Glendale Arena, 9400 West Maryland. The tour's new non-dirt format promises a whole new world of "street freestyle" tricks from street sport bikes, while a Pit Party before Saturday night's event allows fans to walk the track, meet their favorite racers, and win prizes. Shows begin at 8 p.m. Call 623-772-3200 or visit www.glendalearenaaz.com. -- Craig Wallach

On the Ball
Soccer to you

WED 7/27
Having barely secured a spot in the upcoming W League playoffs of the United Soccer Leagues, the goal-oriented gals of the Arizona Heatwave will stage a fútbol fracas of international proportions when they face off against the ladies of the Mexican National Team in an exhibition game on Wednesday, July 27, at César Chávez High School, 3921 West Baseline in Laveen. Just like Montezuma, however, the south-of-the-border soccer stars are looking for some revenge, as they were crushed by the Heatwave honeys, 4-2, during a previous match-up in May. Led by head coach Manny Arias, the team's roster -- including midfielder Brittany Cooper, forward Julie Williford, and imposing-sounding defender Michelle Deatherage -- will try to keep from falling into any offside traps. Game on! Kickoff is at 8 p.m., and admission costs $10. Call 480-233-7987. -- Benjamin Leatherman

Jail Bait
When Terrors face Tramps, everybody wins

SAT 7/23
There's an all-points bulletin out for a half-dozen hotties clad in stripes and pink fishnets, last spotted fleeing the long arm of the law on skates. Warning: These girls are considered dangerous -- especially on the roller rink at Castle Sports Club, 11420 North 19th Avenue, on Saturday, July 23, when the Arizona Roller Derby's Tent City Terrors take on Tucson's Saddle Tramps at 8 p.m. Provided, of course, the Terrors can escape MCSO deputies, who have an air-conditioned unit at the "Horseshoe" with a nice, big "observation" window waiting. The admission is $10. Call 602-331-2582. -- Joe Watson
