The Rubber Robot that plays Emerald Lounge this week is not the band by the same name that wears horse-head masks and plays the theremin. Nor are they a soulless, automated device that looks and responds just like a human. "I kind of got Rubber Robot from -- well, my sister's always been a sci-fi nut," says front man Rafael Montoya, "and me and the bass player have a lot of jam-band influences, so we're adaptable, like rubber. And I think of the three of us as a well-oiled machine." Montoya's brother, on the other hand, is the musical type -- he's Fatigo's Mike Montoya. The Modified Benefit show features six Arizona bands, including electro pop Peachcake, hardcore screamo ensemble Where Eagles Dare, and the indie rock sounds of Dear and the Headlights. The Revenge, Awake and Alert, and Shadowbox round out the packed lineup. "It's your venue, it's your music," says Leslie Barton, Modified booking manager.
