While the action emanating from the local nine at the BOB this year has been roughly akin to watching paint dry, the up-and-coming rookies participating in the Arizona Summer League offer a unique alternative for baseball purists hoping to catch an early glimpse of tomorrow's stars. There's nowhere to go but up for some of baseball's brightest young sluggers, so catch them in your own backyard while you still can during Arizona Summer League Rookie Ball, at Peoria Sports Complex, 16101 North 83rd Avenue in Peoria. Games begin at 7 p.m. This week marks the beginning of the league's second half (which runs through August 31), and the action heats up as the PSC's major league field, the spring training home of the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres, hosts several games featuring developmental squads from both teams.
