Destiny's Child

All grown up and leaving the nest

In Memoriam: Destiny's Child (1990-2005)

The multi-platinum pop-R&B trio Destiny's Child died of an unspecified illness at GM Place in Vancouver, Canada, on Saturday, September 10, 2005, following a long farewell tour. Friends, family, and several thousand fans were on hand to say their final goodbyes to the trio, which had been ailing for the past few years. Those who were with the group in its last days say it seemed at its happiest and most energetic during a performance in Phoenix, Arizona, just weeks before drawing its final breath. Destiny's Child was born in Houston, Texas, in 1990, and in its infancy appeared on the hit TV talent show Star Search in 1992. But it wasn't until the late '90s that the group landed a major-label recording deal, subsequently achieving superstardom by selling millions of records and scoring several No. 1 hits despite several lineup changes and persistent rumors of internal discord. Destiny's Child is survived by the solo careers of Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Destiny's Child manager Mathew Knowles.
