Seldom does the Republic hate any place. It's as if its critic isn't allowed to pan a restaurant for fear the paper will lose advertising. Obviously, New Times must not care about that. Whatever . . . nobody in the restaurant business respects the Republic in the morning after the boning it's apparently taking from advertisers.

Let me tell you a story about Tony Vicich. Round about 2004-2005 after a run of Jimmy Danelli's 'funniest person in the valley' competitions I had heard of a new showcase at the Tempe Improv. I sign up and come totally prepared: video of my most recent stand-up, resume, headshot, whole nine yards. Tony's actually nice to me...until I mentioned Jmmy's name. Then his demeanor was like I farted audibly in Church. He didn't even look at me and gave me the ol "don't call us, we'll call you" speal after my set. It was only later that I learned it was just an audition for his stupid 'school' but the whole experience completely turned me off of Comedy in arizona for almost 3 years while other Funniest person alumni continued to thrive. It was only by finally picking myself up and moving out of state that I was able to get my Comedy groove back and I haven't looked back since... Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach. If he's so good, why did he leave LA. You want a good comedy teacher in Arizona: Deeann Kinkade.
