Death From Above 1979

Hot Pink!, the long-reigning queen of the glam-dance scene, seems like it ought to have petered out. Instead, even with founder DJ Nimh spending most of his time in NYC, Hot Pink! continues to evolve and keep all the pretty sparkly kids showing up to shimmy. This Friday, October 14, Hot Pink!'s got the afterparty for the Death From Above 1979 show (to be held earlier in the evening at Tempe's Big Fish Pub), and the duo -- bassist Jesse Keeler and drummer Sebastien Grainger -- are throwing down DJ sets of their own, along with the usual suspects Sleazy Sean and Colt. DFA 1979 is known for riff-heavy noisy fuckin' rawk, as demonstrated on its debut album You're a Woman, I'm a Machine, so it's anybody's guess what these guys'll drop on the tables. There's no cover before 10 p.m. at Karamba (1724 East McDowell Road, www.thehotpink.com), and only five bucks after that. Even the 18-20 crowd can get in on the action from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m.
