Their résumés boast credits from Seinfeld to The Simpsons, but Everybody Loves Raymond executive producer Phil Rosenthal and the sitcom's writers found the richest material in the minutiae of domestic life. While the show, starring Ray Romano (pictured at right), may be gone to that great rerun channel in the sky, its legacy lives on in the nationwide tour Everybody Loves Raymond: Inside the Writers' Room -- Secrets of a #1 Sitcom, which visits Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, 7380 East Second Street, at 8 p.m. Saturday, October 22. "They made a sitcom with some truth and reality to it," says the center's director, Kathy Hotchner. "What they do [on the tour] is take whatever was going on in the moment, and talk about how they used that, and then show a clip." Tickets are $38. When you think about Hawaiian music, Don Ho immediately leaps to mind; in fact, the kitschy-cool ukulele master has long defined the island sound for mainland audiences. If Ho is Hawaii's king, then its three-headed queen is Na Leo Pilimehana, which brings its Aloha Live! 2005 tour to Mesa Arts Center, 1 East Main Street, on Friday, October 21. The trio is billed as "Hawaii's No. 1 selling female group of all time" -- which sounds like a big deal, though we can't think of another Hawaiian chick band off the top of our heads. Nevertheless, these multi-talented multi-instrumentalists play an exotic and singular blend of native and contemporary music that's definitely worth a listen. Hula down to MAC and hear for yourself. No one ever fantasized about eating the Virgin Mary until she showed up on someone's grilled-cheese sandwich. See the vaunted vestige that sold for $28,000 on eBay when the purchaser, GoldenPalace.com, hosts the World Grilled Cheese-Eating Championship at the Arizona State Fair on Saturday, October 22. The Virgin's not for consumption, but there will be plenty of secular sandwiches for competitors who wish to stuff their faces and block their bowels for a chance to take home $1,750 in prizes.
