Savion Glover has the world at his feet, literally. The 32-year-old tap-dance king is like a shoehorn in a shoehorn factory -- hard to miss. He's left his artistic footprints everywhere from Broadway (Bring In Da Noise, Bring In Da Funk) to the silver screen (Spike Lee's Bamboozled) to TV (Sesame Street) and to venues as varied as the Moulin Rouge and the White House. Still, he's one of those rare artists whose feet haven't gone to his head, so to speak. The dancer's fancy footwork is both a credit and an homage to his mentor, the late Gregory Hines, and to golden-age hoofers like Astaire and Rogers and those mad-tap twins the Nicholas Brothers. Glover brings his touring show, "Classical Savion," to Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, 7380 East Second Street, for performances at 8 p.m. Friday, November 4; 8 p.m. Saturday, November 5; and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, November 6. Leave it to a self-proclaimed "old-school scumfuck punk" band named Meatwhistle to make the sickest pseudo-concept album in rock history. The Phoenix band's latest sonic offering, Genital Accident, tells the story of Peter Fitzwell, a chronic masturbator whose whack-off material moves through musical stages, from the Bass Pro Shops catalogue to right-wing television programs (because, to quote the liner notes, "Bill O'Reilly is a fuckin' hot piece of ass!"). Meatwhistle's live shows make quite an impression, too, as Madge -- the band's tall, rail-thin singer -- screams and sweats through layers of ghoulish white makeup and an itty-bitty thong. See the scenes unfold (or spew) when Meatwhistle plays Mardi Gras Bar & Grill on Friday, November 4. Doors open at 8 p.m., and admission costs $5. Playwright James Garcia summarizes Don Juan: Love After Death thusly: "Don Juan escapes to Phoenix and enters the body of a lousy poet, and the person who's supposed to guide him back to Hell is a gay priest." The play "isn't rooted in reality," says director Marcos Najera, "so we don't have to pretend. The audience walks into a lounge; the bartenders are part of our cast." Don Juan is the inaugural production in the Farnsworth Studio Theater "red box" at Mesa Arts Center, 1 East Main Street. Shows are scheduled Thursday, November 3, through Sunday, November 6.
