What I cannot understand is how a majority of my fellow voters can think that even minuscule criminal activity deserves the harshest treatment inside the jails. These citizens keep electing Arpaio because they believe that, no matter what atrocity he condones, he's doing a great job.

I can only hope that the jury in the Agster case will see the sheriff for the cruel administrator he is and give the victim's parents a very large financial award. My pipe dream is that Arpaio's dismal administration will become so expensive that taxpayers will vote him out in 2008.

I live with the druggies, murderers, rapists, pedafiles etc here in Central AZ. I am glad that I don't live in Maricopa County. Sheriff Joke will someday get sent to his own jail.

I'd rather live around "druggies, pedafiles, and rapists" than live under a sheriff whose policies end in the MURDER of a completely innocent and helpless mentally challenged person, jack.

Don't feel bad, nick. Literally every Joe Arpaio supporter wants to abolish constitutional rights for anyone who gets arrested because they think it'll only affect brown-skinned people or people they don't like. Try explaining to them the purpose of the constitution is to treat people like human beings or that jail in most countries who have drastically reduced their crime rates centered prison on rehabilitation rather than punishment and it's like talking to a brick wall. They keep voting that crooked jackass Arpaio in office in spite of the blowhard costing them a ridiculous amount of money as the violent crime rate in maricopa goes up since good ol' Joe concentrates all his efforts on busting brown people for the camera instead of going after violent or federal criminals.

That's prison, prison is for the convicted. People are held in jail before trial, a time in which they are presumed innocent. Arpaio exists because the people of Arizona prefer to hide behind a false coat of righteousness and the idea that none of this could happen to them. They're good people. This is sick.

I can only hope that the author of this article is blessed with living with and near all the druggies, pedafiles, rapists, etc. so they can violate his "Constitutional Rights." Then we could see how biased his opinion is. It has long been time that the United States make jail unappealing...that is why it is jail.
