Final Friday Fundamentality

Rap three times on the ceiling

Phoenix MC and record label founder Arhythmatik knows that the basement of ASU's Memorial Union is more than an open venue with strangely acute acoustics. He sees the cellar stage as a mecca of hip-hop culture, and on the last Friday of every month, he shares his vision with hip-hop fans of all ages. This month, L.A. underground experimental hip-hop and rock artist Xolo Lan Xinxo will head a cast of three DJs, a mix of local MCs, and at least one graffiti artist. Xolo, who spits a quick-tongued and socially observant flow with Mexican folk-inspired style, is a regular on the Project Blowed radio show and CD compilations, but is best known for his music with the rap group O.M.D., alongside fellow indie rapper 2Mex. Mesa's Arsenic and DJ Elixir, and Phoenix's Kers and DJ Rotus will also perform, and graf artist 2Much will bring another hip-hop element to the third Fundamentality installment. A cipher freestyle competition will open the night for all wanna-be MCs. Local artists Kers, Scott Allen and Spanish Phly will be judging the competition based on delivery and context rather than attack rhyme quality.
