Djentrification and Peso One

Kicking it on the coffee porch

If you've been wondering why all the cool obscure vinyl from places like Eastside Records and Tracks in Wax has disappeared lately, chances are these platters have found their way into the collections of Djentrification and Peso One. Don't worry, they ain't hoarding all the wacky wax from you charlatans (à la Jack Black in High Fidelity), but are procuring them for their weekly Wednesday night turntable gigs on the patio of the Willow House, 149 West McDowell Road. Djentrification's crates are filled with plenty of old-school punk, funk, jazz, and other various rarities from artists like The Feederz, Dennis Coffey, Fela Kuti, and Tom Waits. There's also plenty of surreal spinning in the form of Asian dub, Bollywood music, and kids' records that work their way into his repertoire. Meanwhile, English expatriate Peso One (a.k.a. Grant Cleaver of the old-school Valley punk band Grant & The Geezers) busts the ska, dancehall, and reggae vibe, producing an offbeat one-two punch that befits the madcap vibe of the Willow House. The needle drops at 8:30 p.m., and there's no cover.
