Damn, Diosa's sure got some mad DJ skills. The punky female turntablist, who got into the scratching-and-spinning biz after witnessing a "life-altering" performance by Z-Trip in 2000, is not only a member of such she-jay collectives as Females Wit Funk, but she's also been featured in the pages of Sonik magazine and the 2004 documentary Vinyl Is a Girl's Best Friend. Diosa also works plenty of gigs around town, including Shimmy, an "eclectic lounge night" that takes over Trax, 26 South Farmer Avenue in Tempe, every Monday. Teaming up with Blunt Club resident Hyder and weekly guests (such as Jimmy the Mantis Claw, who stops by on Monday, November 13), Diosa unleashes a mix of liquid funk, rare grooves, downtempo beats, classic soul, trip-hop, and more. The night also boasts live art, classic black-and-white movies on the patio, and spoken word. Diosa and crew kick it starting at 9 p.m., and there's no cover.
