Mesa may not be known for a totally bumpin' night life, but when we heard about "Sound in the Ground: Jelly/Belly" on Thursday, March 29 at Mesa Contemporary Arts, we thought it might be worth checking out — especially because Mesa Arts Center is one of the most sleek and stylish arts venues in the Valley.

Sound in the Ground, which MCA throws together every season, may not lend itself to the usual grinding on the dance floor we see while doing a Club Candids. The event was a bit classier. With yummy appetizers and a cash bar, people could get their buzz on and look at some killer art while hearing the cuckoo sounds of DJ Djentrification's spinning. The below-sea-level courtyard was buzzing with activity as guests sat back and enjoyed Tucson Puppet Works' vaudeville-inspired show and belly dancers who jiggled their goodies. Late in the evening, live bands Rocketline and Attack of the Giant Squid rocked out, making the whole gig a great way to spend a Thursday.
