Effortless projects seem to be kissed by fate, just like the newly released EP by local indie-electronica trio Number Sine. Formed after a chance meeting at Pita Jungle, and signed after sending out only one CD, they're gearing up for a national tour. Their self-titled EP is the quintessential summer soundtrack — charming electronic pop that sounds like it was created by the love child of Zero 7 and the Plain White T's. Number Sine's first single, "Lights Out Landing," is screaming for inclusion on the next Zach Braff soundtrack. This is the kind of music made for summer road trips with the top down and a car full of friends. Earnest, happy production by Elaine Walker is deceptively simple, as evidenced by the band's live shows, where Elaine is strapped into a Lucite guitar-ish contraption for beats and bass lines, and plays a space-age, clear keyboard with quick kicks of high-heeled feet — all without irony or novelty. Luke Hill rounds out the percussion section with a full drum kit, which is much appreciated, because it adds to the unforced, graceful sound. Number Sine is one of those projects that makes it all look easy.
