Wright's life was full of drama, but his crib looks great

If you thought architects were a bunch of boring blueprint lovers, you're probably not familiar with Frank Lloyd Wright’s dramatic life story. Fired for moonlighting on the job, Wright fled to Italy with a client's wife. After returning to the States, his lover was killed after an ax-wielding servant torched his Taliesin studio in Wisconsin. Enter wife number two, a morphine addict, whom he left a year later to join wife number three, a Bosnian ballerina. Then Taliesin burned again.

In 1937, he built Taliesin West. You can peep some of the coolest nooks and crannies within the architectural masterpiece -- including Wright's recently remodeled living quarters and the stunning "Garden Room" -- during the 90-minute Taliesin West Summer Insights Tour.

Tours depart on the hour, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Note: Taliesin is closed each Tuesday and Wednesday in July and August.
