Theater troupe salutes Alan Jay Lerner's timeless classics

Anyone who dares to wring some fun out of Alan Jay Lerner’s “How Could You Believe Me When I Said I Loved You When You Know I've Been a Liar All My Life?” is taking a real risk, but if anyone can do it, it’s likely that Theatre Artists Studio can. The newish company, which operates as a sort of theater collective in an old retail spot in the northeast Valley, is including that ditty in Words for Music, a cabaret-style Lerner revue featuring compositions from such famous tuners as My Fair Lady, Camelot, Paint Your Wagon, Brigadoon, and Gigi.

Narrated by Gus Edwards and performed by TAS member artists Shana Rebilas Bousard, Dominik Rebilas, and Joe Bousard, the show describes Lerner’s life via standards he composed in collaboration with others, like “Thank Heaven for Little Girls,” “On a Clear Day,” “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “Almost Like Being in Love,” and -- of course! -- “I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face.”
