He Will, He Will Rock You

Impersonator brings Freddie Mercury back to life

He's dead, so the closest you'll get to a Freddie Mercury concert these days is one of the several Freddie-tribute shows currently trekking the globe. The most popular of them, Queen: It's a Kinda Magic, will bring with it your favorite Queen tunes faked up real nice by sound-alikes for Brian May, Roger Taylor, and John Deacon. And, okay, so maybe not every critic who's watched these guys doing "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "We Will Rock You" has loved them, but that hasn't affected ticket sales or dampened the spirits of Freddie impersonator Craig Pesco, who does look an awful lot like the late singer (if you squint a little).

But don't take our word for it. Peter Freestone, Mercury's personal assistant for the last 12 years of his life, is among the show's noisiest supporters. "There are plenty of Queen shows out there," he's quoted as saying in the show's pressbook, "but Queen: It's a Kinda Magicreally re-creates the magic of Freddie live on stage." If you disagree, one of the other Freddie shows is bound to pull into town shortly.
