The competition will be fast and furious at this weekend’s Pharaoh Step Classic event. Members of ASU’s Mu Eta Chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity will pit their skills at “stepping” -- a synchronized and percussive form of dancing incorporating chanting, stomping, clapping, and other rhythmic movements that’s been featured in films like Drumline and Stomp the Yard -- against similar step teams representing African-American fraternities and sororities from across the country. Described as “the Mecca of step shows,” the afternoon-long event will also feature performances by local step and drill teams. An after-party will be held at the Icehouse, 429 West Jackson Street, starting at 9:07 p.m. (With $15 admission before 10 p.m. and discounts for Pharaoh Step Classic ticketholders).
Sat., Nov. 10, 2 p.m., 2007
