The mouth-watering smell of juicy meat roasting over open flame will mix with the sweet smell of success at this weekends Southwest International BBQ Cookoff: Dual in the Desert, where competing teams of cagey cooks from four different states descend upon Rawhide for some grillin gamesmanship to determine who can beat their meat. But before these beef barons engage in a hickory-smoked smackdown, the three-day event kicks off on Friday, November 9, with some pre-competition festivities, including a dance-a-thon, poker and blackjack tournaments, bull-riding, and live music. Gates for the pre-party open at 6 p.m., and admission is free. The cook-offs (as will as additional music and activities) will be held starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 10, and Sunday, November 11.
