It sounds all bright and shiny -- like a good Christmas movie should -- but this 2005 anti-war film by director Christian Carion is as dark as the Grinch's heart, pre-Cindy Lou. It's based on the true story of the unplanned and unauthorized Christmas Eve truce of 1914 during World War I, in which the foot soldiers on both sides of the trenches laid down their arms and made tentative gestures at brotherhood. The next day . . . well . . . we're not trying to blow your high, but this'll give you some perspective never time you're tapping your foot in some department-store queue.
