Bach Choir Eat World

Here’s proof that you can wear a robe and still be hip

Name a Phoenix-based musical act that’s been nominated for five Grammys in the same year. Alice Cooper? False. CeCe Peniston? Uh, no. Jimmy Eat World? Gross, dude. Phoenix Bach Choir? Say what?

Say yes to the following nominations for the choral group:

• Best Classical Album
• Best Choral Performance
• Best Surround Sound Album
• Best Engineered Album, Classical

Also, the producer of the group’s Passion Week, Blanton Alspaugh, has been nominated as Producer of the Year for the classical genre.

So you’re sitting there, dumfounded. How could such a renowned ensemble, around since 1958, be right under your nose? Well, no worries, friend, because we were in the same ignorant position until we saw and heard the PBC a few months ago (for an online review of a November 2007 show, peep http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/uponsun/2007/11/phoenix_bach_choir_trinity_epi.php).

Get a peek at what February 10’s 50th annual Grammy Awards hold in store – hopefully -- during the Bach Choir’s “Laud to the Nativity” program.
