Bookended by two of our more illustrious ex-lovers, we contemplate the cyclical circumstances that brought us to this particular bar rail. For ages, the tiny Chez Nous Cocktail Lounge – steeped in velvety darkness and dangerous liaisons -- stood guard against formulaic nightlife at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and Indian School Road. It was a heavenly purgatory where sins were cleansed with alcohol, close dancing, and soul music. Suddenly (to drunks, anyway), it closed. But like the appropriate Phoenix, Chez Nouz has risen from its crumbled asphalt and perched itself on the northwest corner of Grand Avenue and Polk Street. Just like the old dive, everyone can slow dance for a second chance, chill with a PBR, or get sophisticated with a martini. Either way, someone's filing for divorce.
