Enjoy the ride at SMoCA

Most folks go to car shows just to see slick autos. Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art’s new “Car Culture” exhibit invites a deeper reflection on the whole fetishistic American automotive mess. Promo materials bill the show as “a look at the interrelationship of cars, people, and society,” a sentence that has all the jazz of a Sociology 101 thesis. The trick to enjoying the show? Ignore the culture-speak and enjoy the ride provided by 11 artists, including Robert Frank and Erin Wurm, who promise a surreal trip full of irony, surprise, and humor on the showroom floor.
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sundays, 12-5 p.m.; Thursdays, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Starts: Jan. 18. Continues through April 26, 2008
