JoAnn Yeoman dishes on her love for John Cleese and Waiting for Guffman and her aversion to stand-up

JoAnn Yeoman's played in everything from Becket to Bye, Bye, Birdie! (her fave role: Dulcinea in Man of La Mancha), from princesses to hookers (currently, in Algonquin Theatre’s The Oldest Profession).

I knew I wanted to be in show business when I was 3 years old and my mom took me to see Swan Lake.

The worst thing about being an actor is that most people have no idea how difficult, demanding, and important a profession it is.

If I could be anyone other than myself it would be Leonard Bernstein.

It's not entirely true, but I sometimes tell people that I actually know what I'm doing.

My worst audition ever was all of them! I'm a horrible auditioner.

The fictional character I am most like is Corky from Waiting for Guffman.

I am utterly terrified of ever losing my passion for life.

I laugh uncontrollably at John Cleese.

The one thing I absolutely refuse to do onstage is stand-up comedy.

Something I have never admitted to anyone before is what a terrible temper I have.

Currently, I am reading The Hedgehog, the Fox and the Magister's Pox by Stephen Gould.

The first time I got drunk I threw up.

Like my mother used to say, "A civilized young lady never finishes everything on her plate. They'll think we don't feed you at home."
