I am lucky enough to live across the street from this house in the St. Mathews neighborhood, in a bungalow that I am restoring. I have met the woman, "Barbra" who, despite difficulties brought on by the City of Phoenix Planning Commission, is lovingly restoring this gorgeous home. She has already redone the cedar clapbord and replaced most of the windows. I remember her saying that she fell in love with the home when, in a last ditch effort to save it from the wrecking ball, the former owner placed the home in the "Save This Old House" section of This Old House Magazine several years ago. The home is amazing inside and out, as the integral details of its interior are still largely intact. We as a neighborhood are thankful that this home, along with so many others in the neighborhood are safe from being wiped off the map. I believe it is only a matter of time before this neighborhood regains its historic charm and the turmoil and crime becomes a thing of the past.
