The press release for Pink Martini’s upcoming performance in Scottsdale has this to say about the 12-piece ensemble from (where else?) Portland, Oregon: “a cross between a 1930s Cuban dance orchestra, a classical chamber music ensemble, a Brazilian marching street band, and Japanese film noir.” Well, that just about covers the globe, though we’d love if it if the band could squeeze in some pan-African polyrhythms and field recordings of glaciers in Antarctica. Kidding.
