Mark LaRue is a double-duty DJ. When the 32-year-old isn't spinning rump-shaking Nickelback or Wyclef jams for the exotic dancers of Bourbon Street Circus, he's dropping punk rock, hardcore, and ska songs on Monday nights at the Rose & Crown Pub, 628 East Adams Street, during 1... 2... 3... 4!!!. "The view at Bourbon is awesome, but the music is much better at the Rose & Crown; I don't think anybody's gonna deny that," he says. Probably not, since the the night features LaRue and Jason Urias (frontman for old-school Valley pop-punk band Plinko) unleashing a serious setlist of ska-punk every week, including tons of East Bay stuff like Jawbreaker and Screeching Weasel, 2 Tone tracks from groups like The Specials and Madness, and anything else in their music collection. "We also get some local stuff into the mix: Parkway Wretch, The Revenge, even way old-school local bands like Ernie's Rubber Duckie," LaRue says. "It's something interesting to do on a Monday night, since there's nothing else cool going on in downtown Phoenix then." The music goes from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. and there's no cover.
