Flesh Photography

Artist Connie Imboden, whose work is featured in the “Classical Illusion” exhibit, says on her Web site, “There’s nothing more repulsive or seductive than flesh.” Yep. We agree, especially after checking out her underwater photographs that capture the human body in surrealistic contortions and reflections. The images – which Imboden processes and prints on her own without adding artificial effects – both disturb and inveigle, much like Rorschach’s inkblots.

Also featured in this show is the work of Neil Borowicz, who interprets the human body through three-dimensional sculptures from black-and-white plaster. He fragments the figure, creating isolated studies of various sections of the body. Like Imboden, his art beckons beyond the visual and delves into the psychological, tugging us through sensations of discomfort and fascination.
