Former Tempe scenester hypes new book, disc
Just because you wrote a few songs doesn’t mean you’re qualified to author an entire book. (How would you like to read Donny Osmond’s memoirs?) Fortunately, former Phoenician Art Edwards — co-founder, co-songwriter, and bass player of The Refreshments — has more than the necessary credentials (i.e., an MFA in writing from the University of San Francisco) to write a full-fledged novel, which is exactly what he has done, times two.

In case you swore off listening to the radio in the mid-’90s (not the worst idea ever), The Refreshments spawned several hit singles, including “Banditos” and the theme song to King of the Hill, which catapulted the band to an almost-Gin Blossoms level of fame among homegrown Phoenix acts. Tonight, Edwards reads from his latest novel, Ghost Notes, and intermittently performs songs from his first solo album, Songs From Memory, during an acoustic in-store performance at Stinkweeds.
