Here's the Beef

Seeing Red at Chase

If the Arizona Diamondbacks end up winning the National League West, it’ll be due in large part to a career .247 hitter named Adam Dunn. The big, beefy Texas steer – all 6-foot-6, 275 pounds of him – came to the D-Backs in an August 11 trade with the Cincinnati Reds, Dunn’s MLB home since his rookie season in 2001. He’ll reunite with his pathetic homies from Ohio when the D-Backs host a three-game series against the Red Stockings. Dunn’s batting average is as puny as his bat is large, but that’s misleading. In addition to his healthy home-run production – he was one dinger shy of the NL home-run lead at press time – the dude’s always had a freakishly out-of-proportion on-base percentage, a chronically challenging area for our offense-challenged Baby Backs.
