Awwwwwwwwwwwww.” That’s what our 2-year-old is wont to say, followed by “So coot,” whenever he sees something that’s particularly charming to 2-year-old eyes. It’s what we’re saying as our charmed orbs scan the not-quite-cuddly creatures on display in the “Dia de los Plush” exhibit. The handmade creations are stuffed-animal-style representations of Day of the Dead/Dia de los Muertos symbols and icons. They’re all so coot, but also sort of sweetly perilous, from Ronda Kivett’s comically toothy Sugar Skull series to Sappy Moose Tree’s self-explanatory Scooter the Sock Monkey Skeleton to Heidi Kenney’s Tim Burtonesque fantasia Rosa and the Devil (pictured). Other artists offering huggable death symbols for show and sale include Roy Wasson Valle, Serena Kuhl, Jared Deal, Dawna Jo Davis, and Spooky Daddy. You can preview the works online at www.redhotrobot.net.
Tuesdays-Sundays. Starts: Oct. 12. Continues through Nov. 7, 2008
