Imagine realizing a lifelong dream by opening your own indie business. Not only does it pay the bills, but it thrives for nearly a decade, becoming a much-needed alternative to the big-box stores. Life is good. Love is good. Then, just like that, it’s gone.

This pissing-in-your-Cheerios-nightmare occurred to Steve Wiley and Kristian Luce, owners of Hoodlums New & Used Music. In November 2007, during the ASU Memorial Union fire, the CD, record, and DVD shop was damaged beyond repair. Bye-bye dream.

(But only for about nine months.)

You see, Wiley and Luce vowed to start over from scratch. Lucky for us musicphiles, they succeeded and recently reopened at 6434 South McClintock Drive in Tempe at the Changing Hands Bookstore complex.

About the new, sweet ass digs, Wiley says, “It feels tremendous. We have worked really hard and been through a bit of chaos for sure, but that makes it even sweeter to get back to doing what we love to do.”

The Hoodlums’ Grand Opening party will go off with prizes, music by Johnny D, and the “Rock and Roll Poster Show” featuring artwork by Mike Maas, Roy Wasson Valle, Matt Connelly, and David Quan.
