The Whole Enchilada

Really. There’s food at this Latino arts festival.

What’s bilingual and is surrounded by four plays, one musical, mariachi performances, art exhibits, a book signing with local glitter queen Kathy Cano-Murillo, and can be enjoyed while eating enchiladas? How about the Cultural Coalition’s La Calaca Cabaret, which will present a celebration of music, dance, poetry, and theater to kick off the Dia de Los Muertos season and help inaugurate the Latino Arts Festival at the Herberger?

Presented by the Advocates of Latino Arts Consortium (ALAC), the festival launched this week is the first in an annual tradition of theatrical and musical performances and other cultural exhibitions for the Latino community. La Calaca Cabaret’s performance – which will take place at 7 p.m. tonight – features several of the Valley's premier Day of the Dead performers, including Zarco Guerrero and Liliana de Leon and, most notably, nationally renowned author Stella Pope Duarte.
