Pumpkin Heads Will Roll

Gourd bowling with downtown’s weird/urban/artsy crowd

To all of you transplants who say Phoenix is culturally and socially bankrupt, we say shut your trap and open your eyes. And we’ve got family-friendly fairs by the bushel, like the Roosevelt Row Harvest Festival.

“We wanted to create a free urban festival that would highlight all the great accomplishments in the area,” says festival spokesperson Jennifer Delgado. “Our [participants] are some of the best weird/urban/artsy folks in the Valley.” The event will feature live music, art merchants, a Four Peaks beer garden, and pumpkin bowling, a crazy tradition started by local artist Joe Willie Smith. It’s exactly like it sounds, with kids and adults tossing orange gourds down a hay-covered “alley.” If your “ball” goes splat, no worries; we’re guessing the aforementioned weird/artsy folks are always up for a good food fight.

Why is it that you never provide location details in your articles for events such as the Roosevelt Harvest Festival? At the very least provide a web site or phone number pointing to more details. This is a perfect example of incomplete reporting that is very irritating.
