Ranging in style from hip-hop to punk to, arguably, metal, The Stiletto Formal is creating quite the buzz. Sure, it could be because it's one of the few signed local bands, or it could be because of its forthcoming CD, ¡Fiesta, Fiesta, Fiesta, Fiesta!, or it could be because its versatility appeals to a wide audience. Reluctant to confine itself to one traditional genre, it is clear that The Stiletto Formal's tastes are diverse. The group's sharp, textured pieces appear to be a result of its fearless quest to create something likable to many yet not too mainstream, as well as its desire to draw on an array of influences. The band seems to always walk a fine line — it's danceable without being catchy, and it utilizes ideas heard over the past few decades but changes them up just enough that you begin to see them through a new lens. The Stiletto Formal may not be everyone's cup of tea, but the odds are that if you don't like one of the songs, you need only skip a couple ahead to be satisfied.
