Note to Phoenix Suns head coach Terry Porter: Don’t look past the Indiana Pacers. Though they’ve been hauling the boat anchor in the Eastern Conference’s Central Division all year, the team has beaten both the Celtics and the Lakers, and the Pacers have a solid young core centered on small forward Danny Granger, who’s having a star-making year. Indiana also beat the snot out of the Toronto Raptors with last summer’s trade exiling the fast-declining Jermaine O’Neal to Canada in exchange for T.J. Ford, Rasho Nesterovic, Maceo Baston, and the rights to Georgetown’s Roy Hibbert, who the Pacers are bringing along slowly at center.
